About the Resistance Brunch

Founded in 2016 in Fort Lauderdale, the Resistance Brunch started with a simple idea: people show up for democracy more reliably when there are mimosas involved.

What to expect

Every six to eight weeks, sixty-odd neighbors gather for a potluck brunch. We eat, we catch up, and then for 60–90 minutes we get to work: a guest speaker — candidates, organizers, experts — takes questions; we check voter registrations and vote-by-mail status; we hear what our committees are planning; and we raise money for candidates who need it, often with a match on the table.

It’s a potluck: most people just bring a bottle of Prosecco. If you bring food, breakfast things are perfect — though desserts have a documented history of going uneaten. Eggs, bagels, croissants, nova, and cream cheese are always covered.

What we believe

Our mission is written on the front page, and we mean every word: share knowledge, defend democratic institutions, educate our community on elections — and act as a force multiplier for the organizations fighting alongside us at the local, state, and federal levels.

Friends & partners

We’re proudly part of the Broward progressive ecosystem, and closest of all to the Dolphin Democrats — Florida’s oldest LGBTQ+ political organization (est. 1982). Their transparent, member-voted endorsement process is the backbone of the endorsements you’ll see marked in our candidate guide.

Join us

The best way in is a personal one — most members arrive as a friend of a friend. Reach out through our Facebook page and tell us who sent you. Space at each brunch is limited, so RSVPs matter (yes, we track them; yes, lovingly).
